Assistant Professor, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, (USA)

The School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (http://psychology.siu.edu/) seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position (9-month, continuing appointment) at the rank of Assistant Professor to join our Brain and Cognitive Sciences faculty.

The Brain and Cognitive Sciences program provides training in the psychological sciences with specializations in Lifespan Development, Learning and Cognition, and Neuroscience. The SIU Carbondale School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences is a vibrant and collegial academic unit that provides many opportunities for collaboration with faculty and students from programs in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Behavior Analysis and Therapy (ABAI accredited), Clinical Psychology-Adult and Child (APA-accredited), Counseling Psychology (APA-accredited), and Applied Psychology. The School houses undergraduate majors in Psychology and Behavior Analysis and Therapy, and minors in Psychology and Neuroscience.

Start Date: August 16, 2020.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Psychology or related discipline and an established record or promise of scholarly productivity are required. ABD applicants will be considered if all requirements for the Ph.D. will be completed by August 15, 2020. If all requirements for the Ph.D. are not completed by August 15, 2020, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy (https://policies.siu.edu/personnelpolicies/chapter2/ch2-faps/conting.php).

Applicants must have a strong background in Developmental Psychology or Lifespan Development. Area of specialization is open, but especially desirable areas of scholarly interest include development broadly defined, developmental cognitive psychology, behavioral development, adolescence, social cognition, developmental neuroscience, language development, adulthood and aging, behavioral genetics, and neurodevelopmental disorders (including autism spectrum disorders), as these complement existing research areas within the Brain and Cognitive Sciences program. Preference will be given to individuals with postdoctoral training and an established history of securing external research funding. Candidates whose research and teaching interests span two or more of the core specializations of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences program are especially desirable.

Duties: The position requires teaching a range of undergraduate and graduate courses. Possible graduate-level courses include Introduction to Lifespan Development; Cognitive Development in Childhood; Social Development in Childhood; Aging, Memory, and Cognition; Cognitive Neuroscience; and specialty courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. Possible undergraduate-level courses include Child Development; Adolescence and Young Adulthood; Lifespan Development; Adulthood and Aging; Advanced Child Development; Cognitive Neuroscience; and special topics courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. The selected candidate will be expected to establish an active research program that engages undergraduate and graduate students, and to seek extramural funding. The candidate will also mentor students enrolled in the Brain and Cognitive Science doctoral program.
