Towards a new science of mental disorders: bridging evolution and genetics
When: July 1-5, 2024
Where: Ettore Majorana Center for Scientific Culture in the historical hill-top town of Erice, Sicily
The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers in the genetics of psychopathology, for which vast new data is being gathered, with researchers in evolutionary psychiatry, with their rich variety of models and theoretical explanations. Our goal is to foster dialogue and cross-fertilization between these approaches, which we believe can usefully constrain and inform one another. Together, we hope to move towards answering the big questions about mental disorders in new and exciting ways.

We are proud to have secured participation by several leaders in their respective disciplines. A full list of invited speakers can be found on the homepage. We also have an open call for short presentations (20 minutes including Q&A) and posters. Even for non-presenters, there will be plenty of opportunities to engage in scientific discussions over breakfast, lunch, dinner, and after dinner evening activities, all of which are included in the price of the conference ticket, along with accommodation and chauffeuring to/from an airport in Sicily. Because of their informal and conversational format, the Erice workshops are especially productive for students and early-career researchers. The deadline for registration and abstract submission is 1st March 2024, while registration fees must be paid by 1st May 2024.
