"Polygenic Scores: Public Discourse, Communication, and Ethical/Legal Challenges

Panel Discussion

Date: Wednesday, May 14th
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM (US Eastern Time)

The BGA Public Science Committee will co-host an online symposium that addresses the topics of
how polygenic scores are communicated to the public, the challenges of translating this research, and the surrounding ethical and legal issues. This is the second in a series of virtual panel discussions on how individual genetics researchers and genetics-focused organizations can combat misunderstanding and misappropriation of genetics research. This series is co-hosted by BGA and the International Behavioural and Neural Genetics Society (IBANGS).

The panel is organized and will be moderated by Dr. Robbee Wedow (Purdue University) and Dr. Camille Wiliams (Laboratoire de Sciences Cognitives et Psycholinguistiques, Paris). Panelists will include Dr. Danielle Dick (Rutgers University Addiction Research Center; Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School), Dr. Ashley Smart (Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT; Undark Magazine), and Dr. Anya Prince (University of Iowa College of Law).
